If you use all your vacation time in the summer you can miss out on one of the greatest vacations of the year. Many people need a winter break just as much as they do in the summer. Planning and packing for a ski vacation can make the trip even more fun.

Whether you take a day trip or spend a week in a resort town, you will want to have your protective gear and clothing to keep the trip from being a miserable experience. Proper equipment can help you to have more fun and enjoy the trip.

The use of ski helmets has become popular within the past few years, especially for children. A Giro ski helmet will protect your head or that of your child in the event of an accident. This protection can prevent a serious brain injury or even death, and is truly important for both children and adults.

It is easy to lose track of time when on the slopes and enjoying yourself. On overcast days when fresh snow is falling you can completely lose track of the time. When you are packing be sure to grab your black sport watch. The waterproof feature of the watch will protect it from all the moisture and snow and it will help you to meet your group at the correct time.

When you are finished for the day and ready to head into town to grab dinner, remember that even though you have left the slopes there may be snow on the ground in the resort town. Your brown boots will keep your feet warm and dry during the trip. A boot drier will have them warm and dry for the next morning when you head out to breakfast.

Of course you will want to have plenty of warm waterproof clothing for your days on the ski slopes. Ski bibs and jackets will not only keep you warm, they will keep you dry during the inevitable falls you will take while skiing.

Before leaving for the trip, you will want to have your skis serviced at your local ski shop. Take the time to get to know the personnel there and you will probably have the service done at a lower price than it would be at the resort. In addition, you will not spend majority of the trip with your skis in the shop.

If you are having a difficult winter, consider taking time for a winter break. The time on the slopes is great exercise and everyone can use the fresh air and sunshine that are often a part of skiing.

Skiing can be a cruel sport and probably something more suited to people who are extremely comfortable falling down mountain peaks the height of Mount Everest while wearing two pieces of board that can get one up to near the speed of light before crashing headlong into a tree. Look good in ski clothing and look bad while trying to ski and it, meaning buy good-looking clothing but rent the instruments of death otherwise known as ‘skis.’

Consider that Alpine skiing equipment can probably set one back seven or eight years of pay and that it can also get one down a mountain quicker than a Star Wars spaceship moved through that galaxy that was long ago and far away. Consider, also, that that lightspeed-inducing gear can be rented, and for prices far less than the hospital stay and physical therapy, which will be needed after falling down the mountain, will cost.

And that’s why it’s probably the smartest idea of all to just rent a pair of skis and by all of that high-tech and very good-looking clothing. Looking good versus being good should went out every time, and besides; who’s really going to care if — while looking good — every skier on the mountain is laughing uproariously while the good-looking skier is tumbling down a bunny slope?

And the first thing that a little money should be spent on is a nice black sport watch. This handy little instrument can tell all kinds of time, especially the time when the clubhouse’s happy hour is set to kick off. It’s certainly worth the equivalent of receiving endless huzzahs for having skied the tallest slope, though that was an accident that took place after having gotten on the wrong lift.

Much of this obsession with skiing is also why it’ll be a pretty smart idea to get a black helmet for wear while tumbling (which is actually the word that should be substituted for ‘skiing, ‘ in most peoples’ cases) down a slope; it’ll hide all the dents that one took to the noggin while running into other skiers and more than a few trees. The ski patrol will certainly be appreciative, at least.

There’s really no deep secret to skiing as long as one understands that it’s a sport designed to get a human as close as possible to the speed of light while wearing funny looking footboards designed to not handle icy, frozen white water crystals very well. The sport certainly seems to have been designed by some cruel god more interested in torturing the little humans through skiing than anything else, sad to say.

In the end, what’s smarter? Dropping thousands on some skiing equipment that will usually end up gathering dust after the first life-threatening ski experience or renting that gear and spending the money on some hot looking clothing? Sit in the clubhouse, look good — even if there’s no hope of being good — and bask in the warmth of a nice fire and an equally warm toddy.

Think of USA holidays and most people will conjure up images of Fly Drive/ Self Drive tours along the states of the Eastern Seaboard or the great transcontinental car journeys across the heartland of the United States. Some may see USA holidays only in terms of city destinations like New York or family Disney packaged holidays in Florida.City breaks in the USA, especially the Big Apple, and the huge range of family entertainment available in Orlando and throughout Florida are hard to beat.

Many others, especially fight fans and those of us who like a flutter, consider Las Vegas Holidays to be the only real way to holiday USA.The self-proclaimed entertainment capital of the world has an incredible amount of things to do and attractions on offer day and at night. You can take in a spectacular show, book a helicopter flight over the strip hotels like the MGM Grand or fly all the way to the Grand Canyon.

Very few might equate USA holidays with the seaside, but the States is home to some of the best beaches in the world!   Beach holidays in America come in a wide variety of temperatures, depending on where you go and what time of year you visit. If you’re an avid sun worshiper who likes the heat, then there are southern USA and Caribbean destinations galore. For those who don’t like it hot, there are lots of other USA destinations that offer fantastic weather without that heat intensity.

Whether it’s Florida on the East Coast or California on the West, you’re sure to find some golden sands that suit your tastes.   And don’t forget that Hawaii Holidays are synonymous with fabulous beaches and tropical seas. This “American” destination is after all where surfing was invented and secluded areas are still a glorious semi-tropical paradise.Hawaii also lends itself to cruising, another American holiday that may not be first in your mind. Cruise programmes offer a range of sights and memories from the warmth of the Caribbean to the icy majesty of Alaska while a cruise from California along the Panama Canal is an unforgettable experience.

Every year since 1959, the Newport Folk Festival has been a wonderful two day music event and epicenter for the folk music scene. It’s brought a number of famous musicians into the spotlight and fan’s scrapbook pages before they were popular, and continues to be a showcase for talent both old and new. For these reasons, it’s considered a great musical destination during the summer. If you’re considering folk festivals this summer, here’s a few tips I’ve picked up from the Newport event.

In terms of lodging arrangements, Newport has many very nice hotels and campgrounds fairly close to this festival’s site. One nice campground worth checking out is called Melville Ponds. Don’t expect to be sleeping at this festival, however, since the Fort Adams State Park does not offer this service.

In terms of parking, there is a low fee for registration ahead of time when tickets are purchased, which will be more if purchased on the date of the Newport Folk festival. Bicycles can also be ridden to the site, but not on the festival area itself. Buses and water shuttles are some other viable alternatives.

There’s a larger list of restrictions on this festival’s website for what is and is not allowed during the two-day event, but to quickly summarize: glass containers, alcohol, pets, and audio and video recording devices should all be left at home. These restrictions are pretty common for concerts and music festivals, so even if you don’t visit the website, please keep in mind a little festival common sense. Additionally, beach umbrellas should be left at home, but accommodations can be made by event staff if you have a medical condition that requires more limited sunlight.

As for recommended items, definitely bring something to protect you from the sun. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat can make life a lot less uncomfortable at the festival. In the middle of the summer, the sun can cause a lot of skin damage. On that note, have a good supply of water with you. Bring some money for the many good food vendors. Clothing should probably be loose, and footwear should be something versatile, like leather brown boots, and will hold up under whatever weather conditions arise.

Besides the regular musical attractions, there are a number of shops and gear demos that are taking place outside of the stage areas. One a few years ago was demoing a takamine acoustic guitar and allowed amateur songwriters to show off their stuff. Very exciting!

Please enjoy one or both of the festival days, stay safe, and tell your friends about this magnificent event!

The word “vacation” may stir up thoughts of beach resorts and tropical weather in your mind. But have you ever wanted to ride a horse or wrangle a bull? To be fair, not many people think of such vacations right off the bat. Who do you know these days that suggests you to spend your three-day weekend on a ranch instead on a beach? Only the adventurous would tell you to try something new and head for open fields, campfire songs, and horse shoe tosses. Dude ranches across the U.S. are one of the best kept secrets in vacation spots. If you are looking for a different kind of adventure, they may become your destination.

Any hesitations you may have about going to a ranch should be discarded once and for all. Ranches are a great place for a mini-escape to clear the head. Whether for a romantic couple looking to try something new, or a family wanting to having a bonding experience, the activities at the ranch are so abundant, there’s something for everyone. At ranches, a child that grew up watching cowboy and horse riding on the television can finally see it all in real life. Also, it is a great place for kids, especially the rambunctious kind. A ranch is meant to give visitors a taste of the Old West back when cowboys still rode and mail was delivered by wagon. With such broad hospitality and a wide variety of energizing activities, a trip to one of these off the road ranches can do wonders.

Tracking down a ranch to visit is the least of the trouble you have to go through. Montana dude ranches, for instance, have some of the best attractions around. Don’t be put off by the worries stranding yourself in the middle of no where with a half-hearted host. With howdy accents and dedicated staff members that seem to form a welcoming family for guests, the authenticity truly shines through, making for a truly rewarding experience.

Make some time and try going to a ranch at some point. You will be glad you took the time to try something new, and if you bring the whole family, you may find out something new about each other you would never have known otherwise.

If you want to enjoy your best ever ski season and get the most out of it, then you should work on getting your body in shape before you even strap on your ski boots and pat on your giro ski helmet. A fitter body will help your endurance on the slopes and minimize the chance of injury and accident.

Skiing and snowboarding are both very physically demanding sports and they require strength, endurance, control and balance. If you get to the ski fields and you are out of shape you will either not get the most from your trip, or you may even be more likely to become injured.

The most difficult part of preconditioning training is getting into the swing of it. Sticking to your program is generally tough at first, but once it becomes a habit you will find it easy to keep going with. To make sure you continue with the training you might have to offer yourself incentives for doing it or do it with a friend to make it more enjoyable.

By combining cardio exercise with a muscle workout routine, you will be in top shape when it’s time to head to the ski fields. Cardio fitness training will build your endurance so that you can get the maximum time on the piste and get the most out of each ski run. Cardio building activities include cycling, jogging, running, roller blading, dancing and jump rope.

You should do cardio around three times a week. If you have not been doing much exercise prior to starting, you should take it easy and gradually build up your endurance. Do not go too crazy at first or you will end up with sore or torn muscles and put yourself off the whole experience. Set yourself goals and gradually increase the goal posts. You can strap on your black sport watch and use it to measure your time or your distance.

As well as getting aerobically fitter, you should also incorporate muscle training into your exercise program. When you have stronger muscles you will have more control and balance on the ski fields and be less likely to injure yourself. Muscle areas to target include calves, hamstrings, shoulders and back.

If you plan your ski preconditioning and get into a routine with it, then you will be guaranteed a fantastic winter season free of sore, tight muscles and injury.
